Vaginal Rejuvenation is a general term that refers to surgical procedures to help tighten and support the vagina and its structures. It is also referred to as vaginoplasty. Vaginal reconstruction surgery can address the changes such as tissue that was torn or damaged during birthing.
Vaginal Rejuvenation
Vaginal rejuvenation is a general term for procedures that can tighten vaginal muscles and structures. The goal is to improve vaginal health and function, and it can be done for cosmetic reasons or to treat age-related issues.
Types of Vaginal Rejuvenation
Vaginoplasty and labiaplasty are two common vaginal rejuvenation procedures. While some women seek vaginal tightening, others want to correct labial shape irregularities. These procedures can be performed separately or together, depending on individual preferences.
Vaginoplasty
Vaginoplasty is a surgical procedure that tightens lax vaginal muscles to achieve a narrower and tighter vaginal canal and smaller opening. This procedure can help address vaginal widening caused by aging or childbirth, which can lead to reduced sexual pleasure. The procedure typically takes 60 minutes, can be performed under general or local anesthesia, and uses a laser device for precision and minimal incisions.
Labiaplasty
Labiaplasty is a cosmetic procedure that reshapes and transforms the labia minora or labia majora to address excess skin, misshapenness, or irregularities. This procedure can alleviate discomfort during sex, exercise, or wearing certain clothing. Labia reduction achieves symmetry and a more desirable shape. The procedure takes about 60 minutes, with options for general or local anesthesia. Recovery is relatively short, with most patients returning to work in 3-4 days and resuming sexual activity in 6-8 weeks.
How Is A Vaginoplasty Performed?
Our physicians perform vaginoplasty by removing excess vaginal lining and tightening the vaginal tissue and levator ani muscles, resulting in a 60-70% reduction in vaginal length. Perineoplasty, on the other hand, focuses on aesthetically enhancing and tightening the vaginal opening and perineum. For vaginoplasty, the focus is on surgically readjusting the levator ani and transverse perineal muscles to achieve internal vaginal tightening and stronger vaginal linings.
What happens after the procedure?
ThermiVA is a pain-free procedure with no recovery time, allowing patients to resume work and intimate activities immediately. In contrast, vaginoplasty requires a brief recovery period, with patients able to walk comfortably within a few days. A week off work is recommended for a full recovery, with noticeable results from vaginal tightening appearing within 2-3 weeks.
Are you a good candidate for a vaginoplasty?
Good candidates for vaginal rejuvenation surgery should be in good physical and psychological health, and have realistic expectations regarding the risks, benefits, and recovery from surgery. Candidates for vaginoplasty may be bothered by symptoms including:
- Loose/ stretched vaginal canal or vagina
- Decreased sexual response caused by lax or stretched tissues
- Stretched or weakened vagina
- Incontinence
- Poorly healed incisions or tears following childbirth
- Vaginal flatus or “passing air”
Is vaginoplasty surgery painful?
Not at all. The vaginoplasty treatment is not painful, and our staff takes great care to help decrease anxiety and discomfort during surgery. Our patients describe feeling very comfortable and feeling only occasional pressure after receiving relaxing medications, long-lasting numbing medicine, and ProNox gas (relaxing laughing gas) during vaginoplasty surgery.
What is the recovery from vaginoplasty like?
Most patients experience a mild-moderate amount of discomfort for the days following the vaginoplasty procedure; and this usually results from pressure in the rectum and pelvic regions. Our Doctor recommends taking prescription pain medication in the week following vaginoplasty to help manage discomfort. On average, patients heal within approximately 6 weeks post procedure. They are able and willing to return to normal, non-strenuous activities within 2-5 days. However, patients should plan on a one-week break from work for recovery. Additionally, penetrative sexual activity should be avoided for a minimum of 6 weeks post-procedure to ensure full healing of the affected area.
What benefits can I expect from a vaginoplasty?
Our patients display tighter vaginal tissues which results in a refreshed sexual response, decreased urinary incontinence, less vaginal canal laxity, and a sense of heightened self-confidence.
